Sciences Po Rennes contributes to research development in the social sciences with other post-secondary institutions. This endeavor is supported by the CNRS Arènes laboratory and by the broad range of work led by our research faculty.
Scientific vision
Research at Sciences Po Rennes is guided by:
- a strategy to establish our institution as a leader in research on the transformation of public policy and develop interdisciplinary research
- a focus on three fields — transitions and social change, inequalities and democracy, regions and governance
- a research center on public policy in Europe with the ARENES joint research laboratory (CNRS)
- A “Regions and Changing Trends in Public Policy” Chair (TMAP) to explore new public policy trends

The ARENES laboratory
ARENES is a one-of-a-kind research unit (UMR 6051) of political scientists working on a broad spectrum of subjects, from media use and careers in politics and the analysis of public policies, to the sociological aspects of commitment and activism in specific fields such as health, youth, the elderly, vulnerable groups, migration, the environment and regions, along with democratization processes. All of these issues feature in the scientific strategies of partner institutions, universities, Sciences Po Rennes and EHESP. CNRS provides support for up-and-coming areas of research.
Three multidisciplinary teams develop federating scientific research in the following areas:
- Social and health policies — Inequalities and Populations (Directors: Blanche Le Bihan, Claude Martin, Béatrice Valdes)
- Activism, politics and media (Directors: Christophe Gimbert, Christine Guionnet, Bleuwenn Lechaux)
- Institutions and levels of public policy (Directors: Thomas Frinaultet Sébastien Ségas)
